Discovery & Governance Sprint

A short, paid diagnostic to map your workflows, identify high-value use cases, assess risk and readiness, and produce an AI Decision Brief and 90-Day Roadmap for the next step.

The Problem

You are under pressure to "do something with AI," but:

  • • No one has time to map which workflows would actually benefit
  • • You cannot afford to waste budget on experiments that go nowhere
  • • Leadership is concerned about IP, data security, and quality control
  • • You need clarity: should we build something, hire someone, or wait?

What You Get

A Discovery & Governance Sprint delivers an AI Decision Brief and 90-Day Roadmap that answers:

1. Is AI likely to help you?

Not every workflow benefits from AI. I assess where AI genuinely adds value vs. where it creates more overhead than benefit.

2. Where are the risks?

Data sensitivity, IP exposure, quality assurance gaps, and compliance requirements. You get a clear risk map, not generic policy templates.

3. What should you do next?

One of three recommendations:

  • Option 1: Fractional CAIO retainer
  • Option 2: Pilot Build
  • Option 3: Implementation Pilot (4-6 weeks)

Outputs

  • Workflow map (current vs target state)
  • Use-case shortlist (ranked by value, feasibility, and risk)
  • Governance and risk register (including data sensitivity and assurance needs)
  • AI Decision Brief and 90-Day Roadmap for the next step: retainer, Pilot Build, or Implementation Pilot

How It Works

Step 1: Intake (30-45 minutes)

Short intake form and video call to understand your organisation, current AI use (if any), and strategic priorities.

Step 2: Workflow Review (1-2 workflows)

I review one or two representative workflows where you think AI might help. This might include shadowing staff, reviewing documentation, or analyzing sample data (with appropriate confidentiality agreements).

Step 3: Stakeholder Interviews (optional)

Brief conversations with 2-4 key stakeholders (leadership, practitioners, technical staff) to understand constraints and success criteria.

Step 4: AI Decision Brief and 90-Day Roadmap

Within one week (standard) or two weeks (extended), you receive a concise brief (typically 5-10 pages) with:

  • Workflow map (current vs target state)
  • Use-case shortlist (ranked by value, feasibility, and risk)
  • Governance and risk register (including data sensitivity and assurance needs)
  • Clear recommendation: retainer, Pilot Build, or Implementation Pilot

Investment

Standard

£3,500

One workflow, focused document review, one leadership working session and a 90-day roadmap. Normally one week.

Extended

£5,500

Two related workflows or a multi-stakeholder scope. Normally two weeks.

What moves the price:

  • Number of workflows reviewed: 1 workflow (lower end) vs. 2-3 workflows (higher end)
  • Stakeholder interviews: Minimal interviews vs. comprehensive stakeholder mapping
  • Data sensitivity: Simple desk research vs. sensitive data requiring NDA/confidentiality protocols
  • Scope: One focused workflow vs. two related workflows or multiple stakeholder groups

Price boundary: All prices exclude VAT where applicable. Agreed travel and third-party costs are confirmed in writing before work starts.

Who This Is For

✓ Universities and Research Institutions

Need to respond to AI in teaching, assessment, or research workflows while safeguarding academic integrity and IP.

✓ Agencies and Consultancies

Under pressure to demonstrate AI capability to clients, but unsure where to start or how to govern it safely.

✓ Funded Research-Led Organisations

Have a defined workflow, decision owner and delivery budget, but need validation before committing to implementation.

What Happens After the Discovery & Governance Sprint?

Based on the AI Decision Brief and 90-Day Roadmap, you choose one of three paths:

Path 1: Pilot Build

We build and ship a working prototype within the selected fixed-fee scope. You get a usable system with documentation, handover, and training.

Investment: £9,500 focused or £14,000 extended

Path 2: Fractional CAIO Retainer

I embed 1-3 days per month as your part-time Chief AI Officer. We build governance, pilot workflows, and scale what works.

Investment: £2,750–£7,500/month (three-month minimum)

Path 3: Implementation Pilot (4-6 weeks)

A controlled rollout to embed the workflow change: governance cadence, stakeholder adoption, evaluation, and iterative improvement, ending with a maintainable operating routine.

Investment: From £15,000
